If you are proficient at the general aspects of fly casting, but distance seems to be lacking, it is time to learn the double haul. If your casting stroke is good, then lets bend the bow a little farther and watch that arrow fly! Learning the double haul will allow you to cast farther with less effort. This is a mandatory requirement for good salt water fishing and comes in real handy in almost all fly fishing situations. Prerequisite: Intermediate to Advanced fly fishers.

Slack Line Casts
To insure that your fly performs a drag free float to its target, mending one’s line is essential. Being able to execute different slack line casts is a must in dry fly fishing. The types of slack line casts, (aerial mends) that you will learn are the reach mend, producing a distinct mend anywhere along the fly line from the end of the line to the rod tip, wiggle mend, plus some variations.

This class is designed to teach casts that allow the fly fisher to present the fly to a fish that wants to reside under over hanging branches, behind a rock, or right on the bottom. The student will also learn how to perform casts to overcome objects obstructing a back cast along with dealing with wind conditions.

Troubleshooting your cast
This seminar is a diagnostic session for intermediate to advanced casters who are experiencing a recurrent problem with presenting the fly. Tailing loops, flys hitting the flyline, undesired hooked casts, wind casting difficulties, inaccuracy, distance etc. This is an active, participatory session and all students will be casting - one at a time. The goal will be to provide the caster with enough information to begin practising to correct their casting flaws.

We will begin with a demonstration and discussion of the basic mechanics of spey casting. We will then build upon the basics by focusing on techniques that will significantly improve your confidence and your casting abilities. We will go over the Single Spey Cast, the Double Spey Cast and several variations of each and will discuss when to use them and their application in various conditions (such as on a windy day).

Understanding the basic Mechanics of Spey Casting
A two hour systematic mechanics-based demonstration on Spey casting. Attendees will develop an understanding of Spey casting through the fundamental principles that govern all fly casts so they can improve their own casting. Through these mechanics, differences in the various styles of Spey casting will be demonstrated, including Traditional, Scandinavian, and Skagit style casting with both single and double-handed rods.

Youth Class
The Youth Fly Fishing class will include knot tying, entomology, introduction to fly rods, we will talk about reels and lines, rod designation, fly lines, reels, lining rods and transporting equipment. We will work on these aspects in fly casting; safety, the roll cast, the pick up and laydown, false casting and spend some time doing some casting games.
